Rose Taylor

Obituary of Rose Taylor

April 23, 1935 - Edmonton, Alberta

May 5, 2024 - Calgary, Alberta

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Rose Taylor (nee Chambers) of Calgary, AB. Rose passed away suddenly on Sunday, May 5, 2024, at the age of 89 years. She is survived by her children, Bradley (Shannon) Taylor and Jill (Butch) Walker, as well as her loving grandchildren, Max, Alexa, Jenna, and Coen.

Rose was born in Edmonton, AB, on April 23, 1935, and grew up in Fort Saskatchewan. She enjoyed singing in the church choir although rumour has it this may have been due to the good-looking choir leader. Rose later moved to Edmonton and met her future husband, Donald Taylor. They were married in 1964 and had their first child, Brad in 1969 and then Jill in 1971. Don’s work in oil and gas took the family all over the world where they lived in Algeria, Scotland, Guatemala, and Houston. Rose settled in Calgary in 1987 where she worked as a bookkeeper and volunteered her time at the Rockyview Hospital.

Rose had a deep love for travel and annually took extended vacations with her dear friend, Jackie Tatham. Together they travelled the globe to places only one could dream of, such as Kenya, Egypt, South Africa, Brazil, Manchu Pichu, Thailand, Hong Kong, and many, many more. The last count of countries they visited was at just over an impressive 60. A common meal abroad would be some nuts, and cheese with a bit of wine to wash it down. Another close companion in Rose’s life was her faithful friend, Ann Herman, whom she met in Edmonton in 1967 at a keg party. However, as they got older their interests evolved from parties to museums and garden centres.

Rose was an avid reader and a talented artist concentrating on creating sketches and paintings. She loved to dance and entertain. Another deep joy was cooking and baking. There was always a battle between the kids when her delicious homemade ginger cookies showed up. Her kindness was contagious; she was devoted, trustworthy and reliable.

Her biggest joy in life was her love for her children and grandchildren. She truly was the most caring, loving Nana and was cherished immensely by the grandkids as well as the fur babies (Cash, Lily and Sasha). She will be profoundly missed and has left a void that will be impossible to fill.

In keeping with Rose’s wishes, there will not be a funeral service. The family will get together later this spring to spread her ashes at Fish Creek Park and Lake Louise.

Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed with Rose’s family here.

In living memory of Rose Taylor, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes, Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, AB T2S 2L5, Telephone: 403-243-8200.
