Obituary of Joyce Lypka

June 26, 1931 – Winnifred, Alberta

April 16, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta

Our sweet Joyce, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, at Rockyview General Hospital in Calgary, AB.

Born Joyce Annon in Winnifred, AB, on June 26, 1931, to Alberta pioneers, Joyce spent her formative years in Winnifred and attended school in Bow Island. On August 20, 1949, she married Martin Lypka and became Joyce Lypka. Joyce and Martin adored each other all their lives and enjoyed more than 66 years of marriage before Martin's passing in 2016. During those years together, they lived at various times in Lethbridge, St. Michael, Edmonton, Calgary, Medicine Hat, Vancouver, Nelson, and Montreal. In 1991, as Martin retired from CPR, they made the decision to return to Calgary.

Joyce is survived by her three sons, Douglas, Dennis, and Gerald; and their respective spouses, Patti, Lorraine, and Myrna; her seven grandchildren, and their seven spouses, her ten great-grandchildren, her sister-in-law Martha, and her sister Frances.

Family was always the most important thing to Joyce, and their happiness meant that she was happy. Joyce was a warm, gentle, and giving woman, who will be forever cherished and sadly missed by all who knew her. The family would like to thank the staff at the Southwood Care Centre for the care, compassion, and love that they showed to Joyce over the past year.

Service details will follow at a later date.
