Obituary of Janet Ann Barabash

September 22, 1933 – Opal, Alberta

April 12, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta

"Blessed are those who mourn; for they will be comforted."

Matthew 5:4

Janet Barabash (nee Kordyban) passed away on Friday, April 12, 2024, surrounded by her children and grandchildren.

Janet was born September 22, 1933, in Opal, AB, to John and Mary Kordyban, the younger sister of Victoria and Walter. She told many stories of her happy childhood on the farm and the adventures she had with her sister and friends growing up.

Janet met her future husband Bill, at Hilltop School in Opal, AB and together they raised three sons, Darrell, Craig, and Warren. Janet enjoyed family camping trips to Whispering Pines, winters in Arizona, coffee with friends, shopping at the mall, cheering on her Oilers, and she yearned to "stay out of the beach" on the golf course.

Janet will be remembered for her delicious perogies and potato soup, her sense of style, and her warm, inviting hugs for her grandchildren. A highlight for her was meeting and holding her first great-grandchild.

Left to cherish her memory is her sister Victoria Hryniuk, her sons Darrell (Marylou), Craig (Shari), and Warren (Julie); grandchildren Michelle (Jorge), Shawn (Holly), Robyn (Marco), Michael (Mikalyn), Jenna, and Jorja, Matthew and Lucas; and her very special great-grandchild, Willow.

Janet was predeceased by her parents, her brother Walter, and her beloved husband, Bill.

At Janet's request, there will be no service. A private interment for family will be held in Edmonton, AB, this summer.

Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed with Janet’s family here.
